Description

The Horsehead Nebula (B33) is a dark nebula in the constellation of Orion. This object is approximately 1600 light-years away from Earth and measures about 2.8 light-years in size. A dark or absorption nebula is a type of interstellar cloud that is so dense it obscures light from background stars and nebulae.

This view contains many nice and interesting objects . There are 4 reflection nebulae, a prominent emission nebula (Flame – NGC2024), a large star named Alnitak (HIP26727), and a quintuple star system (HIP26549). Alnitak is the lower left-hand star in Orion’s belt. HIP26549 are 5 gravitationally bound stars.
